A Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) é herdeira de uma tradição de 200 anos de serviço, iniciado em 1801, com a criação da Guarda Real da Policia de Lisboa.

A GNR é criada em 1911. É um Corpo Especial de Tropas com carácter e estrutura militar.
